Welcome back to a brand new NFL season, and a fresh start! Everyone is 0-0 and so is your betting record! We’re back on For Fantasy’s Sake for the upcoming season and looking forward to helping all the readers, and listeners, win some money on the upcoming season!
Each new season brings new storylines throughout the NFL. Can the Rams repeat? Will the Bengals keep the momentum on their historic run to the big game? Will any of the bad teams from last year take a step in the right direction? Can the Packers win with defense? How will Tom Brady’s off the field issues affect his play during the year? These storylines always bring an interesting edge when it comes to betting on football.
This year, we will be doing things a little bit differently. Each week, I will present you with four different best bets that I believe in: A Favorite, an Underdog, an Over, and an Under. Throughout the season, we will keep a running tally for each category, as well as an overall record.
As always, week 1 can bring some unknowns when it comes to betting. So always bet responsibly, and let’s have some fun this season!
Best Bets – All lines are on Draftking Sportsbook as of Thursday PM
Favorite
Baltimore Raven -7 over the New York Jets
Two words, Joe Flacco. The Jets will be without their young QB, Zach Wilson, for the beginning of the season, and will be starting the former Baltimore Ravens’ QB in his absence. Lamar Jackson is in a contract year, and will be looking to show out in order to secure the payday he deserves. Ravens run game looks shaky to start the season with JK Dobbins “out for a couple weeks” (Thanks, Dr. Lamar), but even with Mike Davis and Kenyan Drake handling the ball, I see no issues arising in a Ravens rout of the Jets.
Underdog
New England Patriots +3.5 over the Miami Dolphins
Bill Belichick vs. a first year coach, Mike McDaniels. Even with a revamped Dolphins offense, I am not sold on Tua being a productive QB in the NFL. It remains to be seen if Tyreek Hill will regret leaving his hall of fame quarterback, but I believe that Belichick will mastermind a defense to confuse the Dolphins third year QB, and will handle business down in South Beach.
Over
Raiders/Chargers over 52.5
Yes, this number is high. But, both of these teams have high power offenses (Both top 10 in offensive production in 2022) and you add a weapon like Davante Adams to an already dangerous offense. Sign me up for points! I expect a shootout in SoFi as Josh McDaniels will look to start his second head coaching stint in a convincing fashion. Turn on RedZone and watch the points roll in!
Under
Jaguars/Commanders under 44
I really, really, really hate betting unders. It’s not that I always bet the over, it’s just that I won’t bet an under if I don’t have to. It’s football! You want points! But, sometimes there are games that you think that RedZone has forgotten about because you haven’t seen them in over an hour. And I just feel this will be that game. The Jaguars will look to rebound after a 3-win campaign in 2021, as the Commanders have a new name and a new QB. I foresee both offenses struggling to begin the season, and it might be a long season for both of these teams.
There you have it! Best of luck if you tail or fade!
Football is back baby!
